Modeling Scams and How to Avoid Them

Hi all

Today's topic is how to avoid being scammed in the modeling and acting world.

Here are some pretty good signs that an agency is not legitimate:

1) They ask for money to get your portfolio started.

2) They send you to their photographer who charges you thousands of dollars because they had to fly him in from NY or LA.
( There are wonderful photographers in most cities. There is almost never a reason to fly someone in for a headshot or comp card shoot.)

3) They ask for a start up fee. There is no such thing. Agencies work on commission.

4) They ask for money to put your portfolio online. If an agency truly believes in you and your ability to make them money, they will be more than happy to shell out there cash for a little hosting.

5) They ask you for money to go to one of their modeling expositions to see " top producers and agents." Top producers and agents don't have the time to go to those modeling expositions. They are too busy with their top clients.

I hope that that helps you sort out the legitimate modeling agencies from the con artists.

Sincerely,
